How the estimate works

Life expectancy methodology

Dies provides a reflective memento mori estimate. It is not a medical, actuarial, diagnostic, insurance, or health-risk product.

The estimate is calculated on your device using a deterministic formula. Dies does not use AI, machine learning, or automated medical analysis to generate the result.

What it uses

The app asks for basic inputs such as birth date, sex, region, height, weight, smoking, exercise, diet, sleep, alcohol use, and stress level. These inputs are used to estimate a broad life expectancy range.

How it's calculated

The calculation starts from broad regional and sex-based life expectancy assumptions informed by public demographic sources, including the World Health Organization Global Health Observatory and the United Nations World Population Prospects. The app then applies simple lifestyle adjustments based on published epidemiological research about factors associated with mortality and life expectancy, including smoking, BMI, physical activity, diet, sleep, and alcohol use.

The final number is calculated as:

estimated end date = birth date + estimated life expectancy
days remaining = estimated end date − today

Important limitations

This estimate is approximate and intended only for personal reflection. It should not be used for medical decisions, financial planning, insurance, actuarial decisions, or diagnosis. Users should consult qualified professionals for medical or health advice.
